Since 2014, CDCB has been growing under João’s leadership in its relevancy as the go-to dairy industry breeding resource. His previous experiences as Executive Director of Interbull, President of the Brazilian Council of Milk Quality (CBQL), and Professor of statistical methods, animal breeding and genetics, and dairy cattle production, as well as other leadership roles, at Universidade de Passo Fundo in Brazil cultivated expertise in animal genetics, milk recording and analysis, and management and administration.

João earned a Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul in Porto Alegre, Brazil and a Master’s and Ph.D. in Animal Science (Breeding and Genetics) from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. Born in Ibirubá, a small agricultural town in Southern Brazil, he is married to the famous painter Thaís Cassel and blessed with two children, Nicolas and Carolina. He considers football a game in which the ball is round and players use their feet, and he supports the legendary Internacional SC from Porto Alegre, Brazil.
